The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has informed SpaceQ that the first batch of Canadian CubeSat Project satellites which were scheduled to be launched to the International Space Station in 2021 for deployment into low Earth orbit, has been pushed back to 2022.

Teams participating in the Canadian Space Agency’s Canadian CubeSat Project gave an update on their progress in a live streamed discussion on YouTube (Oct. 7), led by Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) Canada.

The Space Apps Challenge started as a NASA backed hackathon nine years ago with global participation. It has now grown to the point where Canada can stand on its own with five years of Canadian Space Agency support, and this year, a national sponsor in MDA.

During a virtual event Thursday, London, Ontario based Western University and the Phoenix, Arizona based MILO Institute signed a memorandum of understanding to develop low-cost deep space missions starting with a CubeSat. The non-profit Canadian Satellite Design Challenge Management Society issued an update yesterday on the status of the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC) and announced a new CanSat Design Challenge designed for secondary schools.

Several Canadian organizations including the Canadian Space Agency, Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Environment Canada have been working with their European colleagues to develop online remote sensing courses.
